Foreign minister holds first meeting with US ambassador to Athens

Pearce (right), on Friday, with Greek government sources telling Kathimerini that Athens was impressed by the diplomat’s knowledge of Greece and his approach to the key challenges the country faces.

Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos (left) held his first meeting with the new US ambassador to Greece, David D. Pearce (right), on Friday, with Greek government sources telling Kathimerini that Athens was impressed by the diplomat’s knowledge of Greece and his approach to the key challenges the country faces.

“I look forward to working with the Greek government to build and develop the already strong relationship we’ve got, and also to around the country,” Pearce told reporters at the end of his courtesy call.

Appointed to his current post in August, Pearce joined the State Department in 1982 after starting his career as a journalist. He was a country desk officer for Greece between 1985 and 1987 but his most recent postings have been in the Middle East and North Africa.
