Only half of Greek households used heating oil in 2012 compared to those who used fuel in the previous year, according to a survey conducted by Public Issue on behalf of WWF Greece.

According to the report, which was relased by the Greek environmental campaigners on Wendesday, while 70 percent of households had used heating oil as a basic source of heating in 2011, the figure went down to 35 percent in 2012.

The survey noted that 35 percent of households used fuel, 21 percent used natural gas, 15 percent used air-conditioners, 16 percent used electric heaters and 9 percent turned to fireplaces and woodstoves.

Last week WWF Greece unveiled a five-year road map aimed at providing the debt-stricken county with a green kick-start. Drawn by WWF experts and independent scientists, the road map contained a wide range of measures for a more sustainable economy.

Meanwhile, taxpayers eligible for heating oil subsidies will have to wait until the end of November in order to collect the deposit for this year’s benefit.
