Greek leftist leader Alexis Tsipras will take part in a debate among the candidates for the Presidency of the European Commission on Thursday.

Tsipras, a candidate of the European Left, has come under fire for missing two previous debates.

The 90 minute-long showdown will be held in Brussels from 10 p.m. (Greek time) and is organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and hosted by the European Parliament. The event will be broadcast live by about 50 TV channels from around Europe and also streamed online.

Jean-Claude Juncker (European People’s Party), Martin Schulz (Party of European Socialists), Guy Verhofstadt (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party), Ska Keller (European Green Party) and Alexis Tsipras will answer questions on the economy, the future of the EU, society and the environment.

Reports Thursday said Tsipras will speak in Greek and Juncker in French.

The debate will be moderated by veteran Italian journalist and TV presenter, Monica Maggioni. She will be supported by rising Irish TV presenter, 23-year-old Conor McNally, who will give updates on the online conversation around the debate, using the hashtag #TellEUROPE.

In Greece the debate can be watched live on Vouli (Parliament) channel.

You can follow the debate on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ using the hashtag #TellEurope. The comments on social media will influence the choice of topics and questions.
