Two Iranian nationals were arrested on migrant smuggling charges Friday after authorities stopped their vehicle and discovered seven illegal immigrants inside.
The arrests were made on a stretch of the Egnatia motorway in northern Greece, near the Derveni interchange.
According to reports, traffickers ignored a police signal to stop, instead speeding off in a bid to flee.
Police said the illegals were from Somalia, Iran and Iraq, having illegally entered the country from Turkey via the Evros River.
The car was also reported as stolen from the Athens district of Aghios Dimitrios.
