A Tanzania-flagged freighter with a five member crew was spotted by the Coast Guard in the sea region of Skoutari with 2,000 crates of contraband cigarettes on board.
Following a co-ordinated operation coast guard officers boarded the ship and led it in Gytheio port, southern Greece. According to initial information the ship had set sail from Cyprus with Montenegro as its final destination.
Meanwhile, three trucks without their drivers were spotted near Skoutari which, according to the coast guard, were going to pick up the illegal cargo.
