"Europe has woken up and the time has come when the work that needs to be done begins," President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias said on Friday, commenting on the decisions reached by Eurozone leaders for a second and far more comprehensive bailout package for Greece.
He urged all sides to "put their back" into the effort for to restore Greece's growth.
Papoulias made the statement after receiving Prime Minister George Papandreou, who visited him in order to brief him on the details of the decisions made at the Eurozone summit for tackling Greece's debt.
The president stressed that Greece did not have time to rest on its laurels, which would quickly fade.
Papandreou stressed that the summit result was a vindication of 18 months of hard work that had helped make the debt manageable. He said Greece's track record in carrying out painful reforms had been positively evaluated and that now the country had to push through major changes for the country and the people.
