A total of 10 million contraband cigarettes were seized on Thursday by Thessaloniki customs officials, a finance ministry announcement said late Saturday night. The ministry said that the unpaid taxes corresponding to the contraband totaled 2,416,208 euros.
Thessaloniki customs authorities on Thursday seized a container with contraband cigarettes in the northern Greek port.
Police said the shipment had set off from Egypt, with Greece as its final destination.
According to accompanying documents, the container was supposedly transporting bathroom fixtures.
