The environment ministry on Friday announced that it is setting up an eight-member specialist committee that will examine and evaluate environmental impact studies for gold mines in Greece.
The ministry referred to a "need for a global and comprehensive approach to the environmental issues related to the production of gold in Greece due to the complexity of the works involved in its production and the demand for a multidisciplinary approach, as well as the involvement in the process of environmental licencing of the specific projects of many ministry services".
