Fire Brigade chief Stelios Stefanidis, speaking to the ANA-MPA, said that "wildfires that break out suddenly at midnight are something organised because those starting them hope that at those times forces will not be in a state of preparedness and aerial means will not be able to operate immediately to tackle them."
He added that an investigation is taking place on the causes of the wildfires and arson is being examined, stressing that "there was and is planning for the tackling of the wildfires but we are experiencing days of 2007 and maybe worse."
"Greece requested from the European Union the sending of six big aircraft but the four came to us. Two Italian ones are tackling fires in Southern Italy," Stefanidis also said.
