The Greek interior ministry plans to immediately set in motion a long-term employment programme in municipalities around the country for 100,000 unemployed. Deputy interior minister Paris Koukoulopoulos, speaking on state NET television station on Friday morning, explained that the programme concerns unemployed technical personnel for municipal works, while the priority will be on long-term unemployed and people just entering the job market.
The 1 billion euros annual funding for the programme will not further burden the state budget, but will be drawn from EU and other resources, Koukoulopoulos said, elaborating that 500 million euros will concern salaries and social security
contributions and the other 500 euros will concern the purchase of materials, renting of machinery, etc.
