The Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology (SYN) lambasted finance minister Evangelos Venizelos over his statements at a press conference earlier Friday on the disconti-nued talks with the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) chiefs late Thursday, charging that "after a shower of leaks of a rift and impasse in Thursday night's talks with the troika, the finance minister informed us that in an exceptionally friendly climate they renewed their rendezvous for 10 days from now".
SYN, in a statement, said that the government vice president was speaking of a review of all the economic targets because the government is unable to meet the present targets, thus leaving open the prospect of new, even more barbarous, measures for the Greek people".
"While it shuts its eyes to a reality of recession, unemployment, poverty and with the economic indicators showing total failure in every target jointly set out with the troika, the government persists with the nightmarish policy of the Memorandum and the Medium-Term fiscal programme," the SYN statement said, warning that "there is no impasse in the tunnel of the government's policy, just new 'negotiations' with the troika, new measures, new failure to reach targets, and continuity of a vicious cycle of recession and austerity".
