Greek defence minister Panos Beglitis expressed hope that political realism will prevail in the Turkish leadership rather than unilateral actions, referring to threats by Turkey regarding the planned explorations in Cyprus for natural gas deposits.
In an interview with RealNews newspaper appearing on Saturday, Beglitis stressed that, if needed, Greece will defend its national interests, warning that the Turkish threats were against international legality.
He also said that expanding relations with Israel is a "strategic priority" for Greece, and not an opportunistic aim.
