“The government will not jeopardise the implementation of the July 21 decision, which ensures that Greece’s borrowing needs will be covered for a long time,” government spokesman Elias Mossialos stressed on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists, he said that for this reason the government will proceed immediately with the implementation of structural reforms in the public sector and adopt a single wage scale for civil servants within the next few months. Also, reforms planned for 2012 will be speeded up, as well as other reforms included in the medium term fiscal programme.
He stressed that the talks with the troika (EC-ECB-IMF) were not interrupted and underlined the government’s confidence that the 6th installment of the loan will be received without problems.
Mossialos confirmed that there will be no new economic measures affecting wage earners and pensioners.
