Greek foreign minister Stavros Lambrinidis met on Friday with European Investment Bank (EIB) vice-president Ploutarchos Sakellaris, who told reporters afterwards that "The EIB is and will be at the side of the government in the promotion of economic diplomacy in the wider region".
Sakellaris said he briefed Lambrinidis on the EIB's activities in Greece but also the wider region, and particularly on the investments that will be financed in the future.
He further put to Lambrinidis the idea of a guarantees fund that would guarantee financing of "viable" investments in the private sector in Greece.
