More than 10 Greek and foreign companies expressed interest to buy 82.33 pct equity stake in Hellenic Sugar Industry owned by ATEbank. The first phase of an international tender to sell the majority stake in Hellenic Sugar Industry attracted 10 non-binding bids and a shortlist of candidates will be prepared before binding bids were made around mid-November.
Under a government plan, the privatization of Hellenic Sugar Industry was expected to be completed by the end of 2011. The industry operates three sugar producing units in Plati, Serres and Orestiada, it holds majority stakes in two subsidiaries in Serbia (AD Fabrica Secera Crvenka and AD Fabrica Sajkaska), holding 80 pct and 92.32 pct, respectively.
