The General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) on Friday characterised as “unacceptable” a government decision, according to which people receiving unemployment benefits, will not be exempt from paying the extraordinary surtax on real estate.
GSEE, the country’s largest umbrella trade union organisation, called on the government to take back the decision, stressing that it would be yet “another blow on those who have lost their jobs, whose numbers increase quickly by the day.”
The trade union also expressed opposition to the likely exemption of hotel real estate from the measure, stressing that “large hotels already enjoy enough privileges”.
