The first legal suit contesting the legality of the emergency 'Special Solidarity Contribution' and the second against a tax imposed on all self-employed freelance workers was tabled at the Council of State on Thursday.
Among those due to file similar legal action within the next few days is the Athens Bar Association, while thousands of similar suits are expected to be filed.
Lawyers argue that the measure is unconstitutional, illegal and contrary to the European Convention for Human Rights. They also point out that the rate of taxation is disproportionately high and may lead to tax-payers being deprived of their property.
