In the early hours of Friday morning two armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on a 28-year-old bouncer as he was driving up Alexandras Avenue - one of the busiest boulevards in the centre of Athens. Police believe the attack was a settling of accounts between rival criminal groups.

The 28-year-old was not hurt since the bullets lodged in the car door and the hood. The two culprits then sped away. Police believe the shooting was a 'warning' for the driver of the car but he has not been found to testify.

The target of the attack has a criminal record for extortion and other crimes and was accused with severely beating a 63-year-old businessman in Ambelokipi two years ago, resulting in his death from a heart attack shortly afterward.
