Port officials in the port city of Igoumenitsa, northwestern Greece, found an eight-year-old boy hidden in a suitcase, whose escorts planned to carry onto a ship heading for Italy.

An Iranian in possession of a German passport was arrested as well as an Afghan woman, having the suitcase with the child, and another woman, an African who appears as his mother, who was accompanying another two-year-old boy.

The arrested people had arrived in the city in a bus and the suitcase containing the child had been placed in the luggage compartment.

Port officials are investigating whether the African woman is indeed the child's mother and mainly why they concealed the child in a suitcase, placing his life in danger. The possibility of human organ trafficking is also being probed.
