A car/passenger ferry rammed into the pier at Souda port on the island of Crete on Saturday morning, but all 1,118 passengers were safe and uninjured, port authorities said. The ferry "LATO", carrying out the Piraeus-Hania route, rammed into the pier as it was manoeuvering to dock.
The collision caused a 30cm rift on the right side of the ferry approximately one meter above the water line.

The ferry has been banned from sailing until the rift is repaired and the relevant certification provided.
