PASOK leader and former prime minister George Papandreou discussed recent economic and political developments in Greece during a meeting with European Council president Herman Van Rompuy in Brussels on Thursday afternoon, sources said, adding that Papandreou outlined the difficult, but decisive for Greece's future, work ahead for the new transitional government under premier Lucas Papademos.

The same sources told AMNA that the new government needs everyone's support in order to complete the task of implementation of the October 26-27 eurozone summit decisions, before Greece's enters a pre-elections period.

The new government's main target is to ensure Greece's continued membership in the eurozone, Papandreou is cited by the sources as telling Rompuy.

The two men also discussed developments in the eurozone and in the wider European economy, with Papandreou noting the need for immediate adoption of bold decisions at European level, beginning with the issue of eurobonds, the sources added.
