A Supreme Court probe into claims by two financial prosecutors -- Spyros Mouzakitis and Grigoris Peponis -- that outsiders tried to influence their work has concluded that there is no evidence to support the allegations. Supreme Court deputy prosecutor Fotis Makris wrapped up his investigation on Thursday and sent his findings to the Justice Ministry. Sources said his report into the claims of interference concluded that while Mouzakitis and Peponis were contacted by their superiors regarding cases they were investigating, including major tax evasion, there was nothing untoward about it. Makris also said that there was no evidence to substantiate claims that the two prosecutors received information from third parties that their phones were bugged and that a banker had threatened their lives.
Mouzakitis and Peponis did not identify the people who passed on this information or who their alleged blackmailer may have been.
