Legislation included in the multi-bill submitted to Parliament by the government on Tuesday seeks to clearly mark out Greece’s coastline.

According to the provision in the draft law, aerial photographs taken in 2008 and 2009 will be used to identify the coast, which will be defined as stretching to at least 300 meters from the shoreline.

The new charts will then be submitted to the national land register. The process is expected to be completed by 2016.

The proposals represent a substantial turnaround from the government, which was forced to withdraw another coastal bill earlier this summer after protests from citizens and environmental groups. That draft law sought to relax the restrictions on commercial activity at Greek beaches.
