Foreign ministry secretary general Amb. Yannis-Alexis Zepos met in Athens on Friday with his Albanian counterpart Amb. Gazmend Turdiu, focusing on the prospects for more bilateral contacts and reinforced bilateral cooperation in the sectors of trade, economy, culture and education.

They took stock of the situation in the region in the light of recent developments, such as the visa waiver for Albanian citizens and the European Commission's avis on Albania's EU accession application and agreed to consider practical ways of cooperation within the framework of Albania's EU orientation.

The two officials also reiterated the wish to make full use of the potential of the ethnic Greek minority in Albania and of the Albanians living and working in Greece to serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.

The meeting was held within the framework of the regular high-level contacts between the two sides.

The Albanian foreign ministry secretary general was also due to be received by Alternate Foreign Minister Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou.
