Α major forest fire broke out at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Kranoula, in the Ioannina prefecture of northwestern Greece, burning a large expanse of forest and local wildlife. The fire also threatened homes and the monastery of Aghia Paraskevi, skirting the mountainside to approach the village of Aspraggeloi in the Zagorochoria district, a popular tourism destination famous for its verdant slopes, quaint villages and beautiful landscapes.

A team of fire-fighters on the ground, water-bombing aircraft and one helicopter were battling to put out the blaze.
