According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter of the quake was 3 kilometers north of Ierapetra and 65 kilometers southeast of Iraklio, while it had been preceded by a handful of small tremors.
Another quake, measuring 4.3 Richter, shook the region of Achaia, in the northern Peloponnese, earlier in the day.
