Greece’s main opposition SYRIZA was leading by 0.8 percent over conservative New Democracy in a recent opinion poll conducted by Marc on behalf of Alpha television channel, AMNA reported on Wednesday.

According to the poll, SYRIZA headed with 23.4 percent, followed by New Democracy with 22.6 percent. Extreme-right Golden Dawn was third in line with 9.7 percent, followed by socialist PASOK with 5.6 percent, Independent Greeks with 5.4 percent, Democratic Left with 4.7 percent and the Communist Party (KKE) with 4.4 percent. Meanwhile, 6.7 percent of respondents expressed their support for other political parties, while invalid votes and absention reached 17.5 percent. On the issue of who would be the most suitable political leader for the position of prime minister, coalition leader and current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who also heads the conservative party, was voted by 47.7 percent of those participating in the opinion poll, followd by SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras with 32.4 percent. The survey was conducted across Greece during the March 13-15 period.
