According to the findings presented by eminent cardiologists and other health experts, 7.9 percent of the state’s total health spending goes toward treating these 199,028 admissions.

State hospitals spend an estimated 400 million euros on treating patients with ailments linked to smoking. Increasing the price of cigarettes by 2 euros a packet would boost state revenue by 1.2. billion euros, health experts said.
