As speculation mounts about Prime Minister Antonis Samaras preparing a Cabinet reshuffle, sources close to the premier on Friday refuted reports that Samaras would make changes to the core of his government in the immediate future.
The reaction followed the publication in the Government Gazette of a decision foreseeing the creation of six new positions for alternate ministers in the areas of justice, administrative reform, public order, tourism, merchant marine affairs and in the Ministry for Macedonia and Thrace.

The news has been broadly interpreted in the Greek media as the first step toward a more far-reaching reshuffle.

However sources close to Samaras said the reform was introduced to cover «a legal gap» and to create a «unified model» for Greek ministries as agreed in recent negotiations between the government and the troika.
