Chief prosecutor orders arrest of landfill site protestors

The head of the first-instance court public prosecutors Eleni Raikou on Friday issued instructions ordering the immediate arrest of anyone preventing garbage trucks from entering and unloading rubbish at the Fyli landfill site.

    She was acting in response to a letter sent by Athens Mayor George Kaminis, who said that a sit-in by local authority workers at the landfill, who were preventing anyone from entering and using the landfill site, was creating a public health issue.

    Local authority workers had occupied the landfill site in protest against salary cuts and the labour reserve measure planned by the government.
