In comments made Wednesday, Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou said the proposal is among several recommendations put forward by MPs tasked with coming up with reform proposals.
He said conjugal visits between inmates and their spouses could be introduced in facilities that have available space. Questions remain as Greek jails are notoriously pushed beyond capacity.
More than 11,900 inmates are currently crammed in Greek prisons, which have been designed to hold a maximum of 9,886 people, Athanasiou said.
