Local authority workers continue labour mobilisations

Local authority staff throughout Greece on Thursday decided to continue various kinds of labour mobilisation leading up to October 19, when the country’s two largest umbrella trade union organisations – the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) and the civil servants’ union federation ADEDY – have decided to hold a 24-hour strike.
Their union federation POE-OTA has urged its members to refuse all overtime work this coming weekend, effectively closing down all municipal services for the third consecutive weekend, in protest against plans to cut pay for work on Sundays and holidays.

They also plan more sit-ins in public buildings, garages and the closure of landfills throughout the country until October 11, when they will hold a work-stoppage from 11:30 a.m. until the end of the shift, a rally at the POE-OTA offices at noon and a protest march to the interior ministry and to Parliament.
