The government would like to move Piraeus’s courts to a former tobacco warehouse to reduce costs and improve facilities, Justice Minister Antonis Roupakiotis said on Monday during a meeting with lawyers and judges in the port city.
Roupakiotis said that the current setup, in which the courtrooms are spread between nine buildings, costs the state 1.13 million euros a year.
The government is considering the former Keranis warehouse on Thivon Avenue as an alternative.
Judges told Roupakiotis that the main court building in Piraeus is unsafe as it does not have an emergency exit.
