ND cites positive aspects of July 21 decisions

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party spokesman Yiannis Mihelakis on Thursday referred to the July 21 Eurozone summit decisions, underlining that relevant decisions included several positive aspects.

Speaking to the public radio broadcaster, he underlined that “the implementation of the decision is very important”, adding that “the government has been too late; is ineffective and has not done what it had to do.” He underlined that “for the past two years, ND leader Antonis Samaras has repeatedly told the government that it needs to take measures.”

Mihelakis underlined that any discussion on an additional “haircut” is damaging and stressed that ND will not enter into such a discussion.

As regards the referendum option, which suddenly shot to the limelight this week, Mihelakis said such moves are merely “publicity stunts”, ones “aimed at diverting the people’s attention elsewhere.”

He insisted in ND’s position for snap elections, stressing that the cost of the current government remaining in office will be higher compared to the cost of an election and maintained that the renegotiation of the terms with the troika (EC-ECB-IMF) is necessary considering that the policy implemented is ineffective.
