Outgoing Finance Minister Giorgos Zannias is to be appointed the new chairman of National Bank of Greece, the country’s largest lender, replacing the original finance minister-designate Vassilis Rapanos who resigned on Wednesday, Skai reported on Thursday.

According to sources, the bank’s current chief executive officer Apostolos Tamvakakis is to submit his resignation immediately after a general meeting that was still in progress early Thursday afternoon. Tamvakakis is expected to be replaced by Alexandros Tourkolias, currently the bank’s alternate CEO.
Zannias is in Brussels with a Greek delegation led by President Karolos Papoulias and is not expected to return to Athens until late on Friday.
