Prime Minister George Papandreou held meetings at noon on Tuesday with deputies of the ruling party who chair Parliamentary committees.
Papandreou met successively in his office in Parliament with the president of the Production and Trade Committee Yiannis Drivelengas, the president of the Economic Affairs Committee Vasso Papandreou and the president of the Cultural Affairs Committee Chryssa Arapoglou.
According to reports, the meting with Drivelengas focused on the committee’s issues. Among other things, the committee’s chairman raised the issue of a draft bill on biodiversity, reiterating the objections he had expressed regarding the increase in the limit for building in NATURA programme-protected regions from 4,000 square metres to one hectare. The prime minister repeated his position on consultation, government sources said.
The economy and the eurobond issue, as well as developments in the European Union preoccupied, among others, the meeting with the Economic Affairs president and leader of the committee on the collection of a million signatures in favour of the eurobond’s issuing.
Lastly, the meeting with Arapoglou centred on the Cultural Affairs Committee’s issues and in particular, among others, research, technology and innovation issues.
