Academics at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) decided to return to work on Tuesday after eight weeks of strike action held in solidarity with the institution’s administrative staff who are protesting the government’s plans to put them in a mobility scheme of forced transfers and layoffs.
The decision came a day after the Education Ministry called on academics at the NTUA, and at Athens University where staff and professors are on strike for the same reason, to return to work so students do not lose the first semester of the year.
It remained unclear whether Athens University staff would follow suit as a meeting of academics on Tuesday failed to yield a decision on the matter.
