A work by noted Greek sculptor Costas Varotsos depicting the economic crisis and alienation in Europe is on display in Lucerne, Switzerland. The “Tension-Energy” sculpture to be unveiled on Wednesday is the largest work of art ever displayed in a public space in the country.
The bended 25-meter-tall steel-needle “refers to the new social reality observed in Europe where the major crisis has brought to light the diversity of societies, the lack of communication and the big differences between the North and the South,” Thessaloniki Aristotle University (AUTH) Architecture Department Professor Costas Varotsos on Tuesday told ANA-MPA.
Varotsos started to make the sculpture in 2008 after winning an international competition. This is his third work on display in a public space in Switzerland, the other two being in Butzberg and Steffisburg.
